Report a Bear Sighting or Incident

Residents are encouraged to report bear sightings (bear seen, bear in yard, etc) and incidents (bear killed chickens, into fruit trees, caused property damage, etc) here or by contacting Colorado Parks and Wildlife at 970-247-0855 or Bear Smart Durango at bp@frontier.net or 970-749-4262.  Note that reports involving property damage, potentially problematic bears, etc. may be subject to being passed along to wildlife officials.  If a bear is acting in an aggressive manner or presents a threat to public safety or property, immediately call Colorado Parks and Wildlife  – after hours call 911, emergencies only.

REPORT BEAR AND TRASH INCIDENTS  
Both the city and county bear and trash laws rely on residents and residents immediately reporting bear and trash incidents. Residents are encouraged to contact enforcement agents directly. If you’d prefer, you can always contact Bear Smart Durango.
